Here comes the HOLIDAY SEASON: Don't panic!!
The Holiday Season is here: the stretch of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. That means:
- Tons of snacks and holiday meals
- Busyness and shortness of time to get in fitness and physical activities.
So what can you do to make sure you stay engaged in fitness and activity? Here are a few tips to help you navigate the Holiday Season:
- When it comes to holiday eating and snacking, don't feel guilty. Take some snacks, deny others. If you grab the break room muffin, then count that as one of your snacks for the day.
- Go with the "80/20 Rule": during the day 80 percent of the things that you eat should be nutritional; the other 20 percent should be 'enjoyable snack stuff'. Then you know where your at during the day. It doesn't have to be exactly 80/20 on the nose, guesstimate it.
- Exercise in spurts; if you can't do 30 days of 90-minutes per day, break it down into more days and shorter time intervals. Like 15-20 minutes of activity over more days in the week (I do this often). Find time before school or after school to "fast walk" or jog a around your school (your won't look unusual, because everyone knows your getting E-FIT :)
Ultimately be kind to yourself. Don't panic and freak out because the snacks are coming and time will be busy over the next month or so. You'll be fine. It's all about mindset and perspective. Be your best YOU over the holiday season, and don't feel guilty about it!
